The experience

We walk among the cacao and coffee crops on the VUELO CARMESI and Morena Roja farms starting early in the morning, when the mountain still smells damp.

The tour begins in the field. We cut open a cacao pod right there; you taste the sweet pulp surrounding the bean and understand why the cacao from this mountain tastes different from anywhere else: the shade, the altitude, and the care of those who harvest it. From there, we head down to the fermentation bins and the drying room, where you’ll learn to recognize by smell when a bean is ready.

Next comes the part you won’t want to miss: the cacao itself—ground and warm—is turned into a face mask. It’s the cacao spa treatment, and it feels as strange as it sounds until you try it. When we’re done, we all sit down at the table to enjoy home-cooked meals made with ingredients harvested right here on the farm. It’s an experience designed for taking your time, asking all your questions, and trying as much as you can. You come for the chocolates and leave having gotten to know the people who make them.
